27% of Sabah Voters Still Undecided Ahead of 2025 State Election, Survey Reveals

KOTA KINABALU, El Sky News — A recent study revealed that about 27 percent of voters in Sabah have yet to make their final decision ahead of the upcoming Sabah state election.

The survey, titled “Nadi Sabah 2025 – Suara Rakyat Menjelang PRU Dun Sabah ke-17,” was conducted by IDE Research Centre in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and the Social and Community Research Organisation (PPSK). It covered 2,488 respondents across 73 state constituencies in Sabah between August 21 and November 1.

According to the findings, 66.5 percent of respondents said their voting choice depends mainly on the candidate, while 33.5 percent would vote based on political parties. The study also indicated that issues such as water and electricity supply disruptions, road infrastructure, and the rising cost of living are among the main concerns for Sabah voters.

The survey further found that young voters in Sabah are not strongly tied to traditional parties and are more influenced by the future-oriented promises of candidates or political groups.

The results suggest that with over a quarter of voters still undecided, the final campaign period could play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the next state election.
