KOTA KINABALU, El Sky News — The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strong relations with the Federal Government in Putrajaya while continuing to fight for Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Chief Minister and GRS Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the alliance’s mission goes beyond politics it is a matter of duty, state dignity, and the people’s trust.
“GRS will continue to cooperate with the Federal Government in the spirit of national unity, but we will also ensure that every right of Sabah under MA63 is respected and implemented. This is our promise to the people of Sabah,” Hajiji told reporters after the GRS Supreme Council meeting in Kota Kinabalu.
He also announced the formation of a special monitoring committee to oversee the implementation of MA63 commitments, particularly concerning oil and gas revenue, education, and rural infrastructure development.
Hajiji stressed that GRS would not tolerate any attempts to undermine Sabah’s constitutional rights or politicize MA63 issues ahead of the upcoming state election.
“Our struggle must remain genuine not political rhetoric. Sabah deserves fair treatment and equal recognition within the Federation of Malaysia,” he added.
The statement comes amid speculation that the next Sabah state election could be called as early as next year, with major parties including Warisan and Pakatan Harapan Sabah already signaling early preparations for the campaign.
