Malaysia Elected to UNESCO Executive Board for 2025–2029, Marks Historic Achievement

PUTRAJAYA, El Sky News — Malaysia has once again made history on the international stage, being officially elected to the UNESCO Executive Board for the 2025–2029 term. This milestone reflects the country’s growing influence and leadership in education, culture, and science.

The announcement was made during the 42nd Session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, France, where Malaysia secured one of the coveted seats after receiving widespread support from member states through a formal voting process.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) described the election as recognition of Malaysia’s active role in strengthening international cooperation, particularly in areas of education, culture, and scientific advancement.

This election reflects the international community’s confidence in Malaysia as a constructive and reliable partner in advancing global UNESCO agendas,” the ministry stated.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated the Malaysian delegation, noting that this achievement aligns with the nation’s aspirations to play a greater role internationally.

“This is not just a diplomatic victory. It is proof that Malaysia is ready to be a voice advocating for quality education, sustainable development, and global peace,” Anwar said in a social media post.

As a member of the Executive Board, Malaysia will have a direct role in shaping UNESCO policies and strategies, including global education reform, world heritage preservation, and promoting science and innovation in developing nations.

This marks the first time in over a decade that Malaysia has returned to the Executive Board, highlighting the country’s diplomatic capabilities and its commitment to regional and global engagement.
