KUALA LUMPUR,El Sky News — The Malaysian government has dismissed allegations made by retired Thai Major‑General Rangsi Kitiyansap, who claimed that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Malaysia were covertly acting as a “hidden hand” or “enemy within” the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord mediating the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute.
The claims originated from a Thai‑language video aired on 3 November 2025, in which Rangsi alleged that the peace process brings “US interference” and that Anwar is a “spy” or “traitor” in the ASEAN framework. Malaysia’s Chief of Defence Force, Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, stated the allegations are “unfounded and unfair”, emphasising that Malaysia’s role has been transparent and focused solely on regional stability. Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin pointed out that the Thai Prime Minister’s public praise of Anwar’s facilitation role contradicts the “spy” narrative.
The incident has sparked concern about potential diplomatic strain between Malaysia and Thailand. It raises questions about the impact of viral mediated claims on regional diplomacy and the politics of peace‑process facilitation in ASEAN. Malaysia’s rejection of the accusations also seeks to reinforce its image as a neutral facilitator in Southeast Asian conflict resolution.
